1. Check to make sure
all ordered parts are present. Batteries, cables and chargers may ship
from other locations. If you do not have these items, a note indicating
separate shipment should be in your package. 2. Don’t panic, we
understand this may be your first experience with radios, there is nothing
you can do short of a forest fire or flood that will damage the radios or
cables during installation. 3. Your radios should
have shipped with new batteries installed. Remove the chargers and radios
from your package and immediately place them on charge. This can be done
by simply plugging the power supply into the back of the charging base and
then placing the 2 prong 110v wall plug into the wall. Next place the
radio into the charging base. Some radios will fit tighter than others.
If the battery is installed properly and the unit is plugged in, you
should see a red, orange or green light. It is critical to charge these
batteries for a full 18 hours before the initial use. Not all chargers
will change from red to green when complete. Some chargers are equipped
with a red button that will allow you to rapid charge that unit. We
strongly recommend that you DO NOT USE this feature. It will indeed
charge you battery fast but it will also greatly shorten the life of you
battery. If you need a quick fix, short charging will not damage the
battery if done periodically. 4. Locate your helmet
microphone kit. We offer two styles of kit. If your microphone kit is
black, installation is a breeze. The unit is assembled and the lining of
the helmet will need to be pulled back to ensure a good install. ( see
installation instructions) If you have received a blue kit or a kit that
contains 3 pieces, follow the instructions on the attached form. The 3
piece kit it to be heat shrink together, do not use solder, tape or butt
splices. 5. Locate the car
harness. This unit will be the item that has three large wires coming out
of a small black box. One wire will have silver or gold end, this end
will plug into the helmet kit. The next wire running from the box will
have a 3 prong female end, this end is where the push to talk button will
be installed. The last wire is the radio interface cable and will be
plugged into the audio accessory jack on top or side of the radio. When
installing in the car, it is fine to tie wrap the cables to the roll
bars. Be sure to keep box and radio at least three 3 feet from MSD or
master disconnect switch. 6. Locate driver ear
pieces. These will typically be black wires with orange or other brightly
colored foam on the ends. The foam end goes into the drivers ear, the
connector end will also plug into the helmet. 7. Locate the push to
talk button, this part will have a coil cord and a hard plastic box with a
button in the middle. This unit will be installed on the steering wheel.
Be sure to leave plenty of slack in the cord when installed. This is the
most common item broken in a racing incident. (running over banana peels,
eating fried chicken before the race and hands slip of wheel etc.) The
button really only needs to be attached hard at the harness connection
end. 8. If your kit has and
external antenna, you will need to drill a hole in the roof or back window
of the racecar. Start with a ¾ inch hole. Gently ream it until the
brass end on the cable barely fits through opening. Then attach the
larger brass nut and pole antenna. Do not turn more than ¼ turn once
assembled. Next, install the antenna adapter in place of the radio
antenna. This will allow the antenna cable to adapt to the radio. 9. Locate the headset and headset
cable. Some headsets will ship with cable attached. If the cable and
headset are separate, simply plug the 2 prong end of the cable into the
radio and the 5 pin female end into the 5 pin male end on headset. To
activate the mic, press the pt button on the headset.
